SAS will start flying to Scandinavian Mountains Airport on 28 December 2019, just one week after the opening of this state-of-the-art terminal. Also known as Sälen Airport, it is perfectly located within less than an hour from the vast ski areas of Sälen in Sweden or Trysil in Norway.
The two resorts combined have over 250 slopes and is ideal for skiers and boarders alike. Not to mention miles and miles of cross-country runs, which this part of the world is renowned for.
Here is the low-down on the two areas:
Sälen in the Dalarna region is one of Sweden’s best-loved resorts, consisting of six ski areas: Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjället, Stöten and Kläppen. Here there are over 100 slopes in all directions and an extensive snow system that guarantees great skiing all season long.
With a Sälen SkiPass you can connect to over 100 pristine slopes by chair and button lifts or even the free ski bus.
Sälen has got something for all ages with a water park, indoor surfing, a cinema, dog sled tours, snowmobile safaris and some cosy restaurants serving Scandinavian fair.
Trysil is 200kms north of Oslo in Norway. The ski resort is built on the slopes of the 1,132-metre-high Trysilfjellet mountain. This is a paradise for the advanced skier, and you can carve your way around 71 km of well-prepared slopes which twist and turn around the mountain. There are also plenty of nursery slopes for the absolute beginner so it will suit all levels and ages.
The skiing is so good here, don’t be surprised if you run into (but not literally) global alpine stars on the slopes. Many national teams from different countries use this as their World Cup training base.
The lifts here are super-modern and come with heated seats.
Accommodation here consists of modern, luxury hotels and fully equipped log cabins which beautifully blending in to the slopes. For lovers of luxury, Trysil has two Radisson Blu hotels located right at the foot of the ski slopes.
