Simon hands over the baton after 27 years

The A380 is safely landed, and Ian’s training is complete. Mentor Simon is leaving Heathrow after 27 years. Time for some deep symbolism.

Over the weeks in Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport we’ve seen Simon teaching trainee Ian the many tasks of an Airside Safety officer — not least how to marshal an aircraft using old-school ‘table tennis bats’. (Ever wondered how it’s done? Try aircraft marshalling yourself)

Job done, and it’s time for Simon to pass on his bats. But how will Ian fare when left to go solo? Keep watching and you might find out…
